Where can you drive with the Toyota Land Cruiser in Iceland?
The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the most capable vehicles for exploring Iceland’s diverse and rugged terrain. With its powerful 4WD system and high ground clearance, it’s perfectly suited for driving not only the main Ring Road (Route 1), but also Iceland’s highland F-roads during summer months. These remote mountain routes lead to incredible places like Landmannalaugar, Askja, and Þórsmörk, which are only accessible by 4×4 vehicles. The Land Cruiser handles steep inclines, loose gravel, river crossings, and rocky trails with ease—making it the go-to choice for those wanting to get off the beaten path and explore Iceland’s wild interior.
In addition to the highlands, you can confidently take the Land Cruiser around Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Westfjords, or the East Fjords, where roads can be narrow, unpaved, or challenging depending on the weather. During winter, its robust build and advanced traction make it a safer choice on icy roads and through snow-covered passes.
Important Reminder: Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland. Even though the Land Cruiser is built for tough terrain, you must stay on marked roads and tracks. Driving off-road on lava fields, moss, beaches, or unmarked land will result in heavy fines.
