    • 16 days or more before rental: Free cancellation
    • 15-8 days before rental: 40% of the total reservation value
    • 7-2 days before rental: 50% of the total reservation value
    • 1 day before rental: 80% of the total reservation value
    • No show: 100% of the total reservation value

    If you need to cancel your booking, you can do so through our website if you booked directly with us. Just click on the “View/Delete Booking” button and enter your details. If you booked through another website or travel agent, please contact them directly for cancellation.

  • What Rental Coverage Options Are Available?

  • What Documents Do I Need to Rent a Car?

    Please bring a credit card in your name, valid for six months beyond the return date, and a valid driver’s license at pickup. For more details, please refer to our terms and conditions page.

  • Do I Need an International Driver’s License?

    A valid national driver’s license with Latin letters is enough. If your license is not in Latin letters, you will need an International Driver’s License, which must be presented together with your national license at the time of pickup.

Picking Up

  • How do I pick up my vehicle at Keflavík International Airport?

    You’ll find the Dollar desk in the arrival area at Keflavík International Airport, which is the area you enter after leaving baggage claim and clearing customs. It’s a small arrivals hall, so the desk is easy to find. And once you’ve picked up the keys the vehicles are parked right outside the terminal — no hassling with a shuttle bus.

  • How Can I Speed Up the Rental Process?

    You can expedite your pick-up by providing your contact and driver’s license information ahead of time. This allows us to prepare in advance, making your check-in process quicker and more efficient.

  • Is There a Fee for Additional Drivers?

    Yes, there is a small fee for adding additional drivers to your rental agreement. This fee ensures that all drivers are covered under the rental insurance policy.

  • What Happens If My Flight Is Delayed?

    We understand that travel plans can change. If your flight is delayed, please notify us as soon as possible. We’ll adjust your pick-up time to ensure your vehicle is ready upon your arrival.

    Pick-Up Timing: If your flight is delayed by a few hours, it shouldn’t be a problem to pick up your car. Our location at Keflavík International Airport is open 24/7, so you can collect your vehicle at any time, even if your flight arrives later than expected.

    Reservation Monitoring: We monitor flight statuses, so if your flight number was included in your reservation, we will be aware of the delay.

  • What If I Need to Extend My Rental Period?

    If you need to extend your rental, please reach out to us at least 24 hours before your scheduled drop-off time. This will allow us to update your rental agreement and ensure the vehicle remains available.

During Your Rental

  • Is Roadside Assistance Available?

    Yes, we provide roadside assistance during our opening hours for any issues you might encounter on the road. Simply call our dedicated hotline for immediate support.

  • How Do I Handle Tolls and Fees During My Rental?

    All tolls and fees incurred during your rental must be paid promptly, either on the spot or online. If immediate payment is not possible, you can settle these charges through a local bank or directly with us at Dollar Rent a Car, subject to an administrative fee.

  • What Happens If the Car I Selected Is Unavailable?

    If your selected vehicle is unavailable, we will provide a similar car or offer a complimentary upgrade to the next higher class, ensuring your satisfaction and comfort throughout your journey in Iceland.

  • What If I Return the Vehicle Late?

    We understand that plans can change, but please note that we charge on a 24-hour basis. If you return the car late without prior notice, an additional day’s rental fee will be applied. To avoid extra charges, please inform us if your return time changes.

  • Are There Any Road Tolls in Iceland?

    Yes, Iceland has a tunnel toll for Vaðlaheiðargöng, located in the north near Akureyri. We recommend paying this fee online before using the tunnel to ensure a smooth journey.

  • What Is Your Fuel Policy?

    Our policy is full-to-full. You will receive your rental car with a full tank of fuel and are expected to return it with a full tank, allowing you to control your fuel costs and only pay for what you use.

  • What Is the Battery Charge Policy for Electric Vehicles?

    For electric vehicles, we ensure a minimum of 70% battery charge at pick-up. Similarly, we expect the vehicle to be returned with at least 70% charge. This policy helps us maintain readiness for the next customer and supports efficient vehicle use.

Dropping Off

  • How do I return my vehicle at Keflavík International Airport

    To return your vehicle, simply follow the signs for Car Rental Return as you approach the airport. If you want to enter the address into your navigation system, use: Blikavellir 1 235 Keflavíkurflugvöllur Or you can open the drop-off location directly in Google Maps. Once you’ve returned your vehicle, we will drop you off at the departures hall (which is only about 250 meters from the drop-off location). You also have the option of returning your vehicle at any of our offices around Iceland, but be aware that the rental may then be subject to a one-way return fee.

  • What Should I Do If I Accidentally Leave Personal Items in the Vehicle?

    If you realize you’ve left personal items in the vehicle after drop-off, please contact us as soon as possible. We will make every effort to locate and return your belongings. However, Dollar Rent a Car is not responsible for lost items, so we recommend thoroughly checking the vehicle before returning it.

  • Is There a Late Return Policy?

    If you expect to return the vehicle later than the agreed time, please notify us beforehand so we can modify your rental agreement accordingly. Returning late without prior notice may result in additional charges, as it can disrupt the scheduling of rentals for other customers.

  • What Happens If I Return the Vehicle With Less Fuel Than Required?

    According to our full-to-full fuel policy, if the vehicle is returned with less fuel than it had when picked up, you will be charged for the missing fuel along with a refueling administration fee. To avoid these charges, please refill the vehicle to the same level as when you picked it up before returning it.

  • Can I Extend My Rental Period at the Time of Drop-Off?

    For any extensions to your rental period, we recommend contacting us before your scheduled drop-off time. Extensions depend on vehicle availability, and additional charges will be applied based on our current rates.

  • What Inspection Will Be Done Upon Drop-Off?

    Upon return, we will conduct a brief inspection of the vehicle to assess for any new damages and to verify adherence to the fuel policy. This procedure is simple and aims to confirm that the vehicle’s condition aligns with the terms of the rental agreement.

  • Are There Any Fees for Excessive Cleaning?

    Certainly! If the vehicle is returned requiring extensive cleaning or has evidence of smoking, a cleaning fee will be applied. To prevent this charge, please maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle and observe the no-smoking policy.

  • Can I Add a Roof Box to My Rental?

    Yes, we do provide roof boxes with our rentals for a fee. If you need extra storage space, just let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to equip your vehicle with a suitable roof box to meet your travel needs.

  • Are Winter Tires and Equipment Included?

    Yes, ensuring your safety is our top priority. Our fleet is equipped with studded winter tires from 1st November to 14th April, ensuring safe travel during your winter adventures in Iceland.

    • Where Can I Find Dollar Rent a Car Offices?

      Many visitors to Iceland choose to pick up their rental cars from the Dollar office conveniently located in the arrivals hall at Keflavík Airport. But with our large network of offices, renters have the option to pick up all around Iceland, including our car rental office in Akureyri in North Iceland, Egilsstaðir in East Iceland, Ísafjörður in the Westfjords.

    • What Are the Office Hours for Dollar Rent a Car?

      The rental car office at Keflavík Airport is open to service all scheduled arrivals and departures 24/7. Our rental car office in Reykjavík and call center is open 8 to 17 during the week (and to 15 on weekends). Most of our other offices are open during regular business hours (see Locations for details). Note that some remote offices may operate on reduced schedules during the off-season.         • What Happens If I Get a Speeding Ticket or Traffic Fine?

          The renter is accountable for any traffic fines or penalties accrued during the rental period. We recommend driving cautiously and complying with local traffic regulations to prevent such occurrences. If you receive a fine, Dollar Rent a Car will guide you on the process to resolve it directly with the authorities.
